What motivated you to become a photographer?
I’ve always loved scrapbooking/taking pictures. Creativity is something that has always been a part of who I am. When I was studying abroad in Paris in 2010 I fell in love with documenting that trip. When I got back home, I invested in a Canon Rebel and shot for fun doing shoots for Friends/family members. Throughout the years it naturally developed into what it is now.
What is it that you try to convey with your work?
I want people to smile and/or cry when they see their photos. I want my photography to always bring them back to that time in their life. I want to capture my clients in the ways most true to them. I want to help tell their story and leave them with long lasting memories that they can pass down to future generations.
How do you accomplish that?
My love for people and human connection has helped me tremendously. I love meeting people and getting to know my clients (I majored in (photo) journalism in college, so interviewing people is sort of my thang). I feel confident when I say my clients usually warm up to me quickly which eases into natural and relaxed posing.
Have you had a photographer inspire your work, and if so, who and why?
There are so many talented photographers that I follow on Instagram who I look up to and admire. However, my biggest creative influences are Lucille Ball and Gwen Stefani. These are two women who have always taught me to be yourself, push for your dreams and use your craft to make something great out of it.
What is your most memorable accomplishment so far in your photography career?
Being able to go full time! This was a big step for me. After college I got a full time gig working for a very successful company. It never felt right working other jobs but it’s what I thought I had to do. After about a year, I was tired of being unhappy. I knew what my calling was and I decided to make the leap. I am so happy that I did, it was the best decision I could have ever made for myself. In October it will be 2 years!
What is one thing you have learned during your career?
My career is definitely just getting started. I still have so much growing and learning to do! But in these short few years I have learned that things don’t happen over night. Hard work pays off. Sleep is scarce. Running your own business is really challenging, but rewarding. Staying self motivated is important. BELIEVING IN YOURSELF. That’s the toughest one. So many times I would wake up and think, “What are you doing? You can’t make a living off of photography!” Then I have to give myself a pep talk and tell myself, “Yes you can girl! Yes you can.”
Which Photographer Supply Company products do you currently use?
I love the 4×6 Unfinished Maple Boxes! I love how simple and clean this box is and how it ties in with my branding.
How have Photographer Supply Company products helped your business?
My clients LOVE them. I think this product ties my packaging together nicely. It’s a wonderful keepsake that my clients get to keep and store away their favorite photographs from the most beautiful day of their lives!
