How would you define your style?
I would define my style as artistically-inspired photojournalism. I am inspired by natural light and relationship dynamics.
What motivated you to become a photographer?
I have always appreciated the notion of visual storytelling. I am also passionate about the covenant of marriage. Combining these two passions and turning it into a career sounded like a great idea to me!
What is it that you try to convey with your work?
I am fascinated by the idea of capturing a still image of an instant, a visual memory that can be experienced after the fact. I strive to document real, authentic moments for couples who appreciate adventure and creativity. I believe in creating a series of photos that tell the unique story of my couples and their day.
How do you accomplish that?
I try to bring this visual concept to fruition by anticipating moments. This is a skill I’ve learned overtime having observed and captured many, many couples.
Have you had a photographer inspire your work, and if so, who and why?
I have been inspired by so many photographers as I’ve grown and developed as a photographer myself. I love Ben Sasso’s unique use of light and Jordan Voth’s composition. Both of these photographers inspire me to think outside the box.
What is your most memorable accomplishment so far in your photography career?
I have loved being my own boss and being entirely responsible for the progress of my business. I feel most rewarded when my couples tell me they feel I captured the mood of their day.
What is one thing you have learned during your career?
I went to college for elementary education, so most things about this career have been learned through friendly peers or personal trial and error. I have learned about the immeasurable value of developing relationships with others in the industry. It’s great to have an industry friend with whom I can discuss the trials and triumphs of running a small business.
