What motivated you to become a videographer?
In Highschool, I was into a video game called Counterstrike. This served as my introduction to all things ‘computers’.
I graduated college and worked as a Systems Architect for 5 years. During this time, I learned web design and started a Blog called HAU5CHAT. The Blog eventually shut down and I quit my job in pursuit of a career in music production.
I quickly learned that it’s a lot easier to promote music when you have videos. So I learned how to make videos. Every video I made I loved it more and more, getting deeper and deeper into the art. Film is now a huge part of my life and the reason I created The Brothers Gorman.
What is it that you try to convey with your work?
Emotion and the spirit of the day.
How do you accomplish that?
Cinematic Imagery is great for telling stories, but audio is just as important. I do my best to incorporate as much audio from the day into my films as possible.
What do you do to help make your clients feel comfortable on video?
A lot of what I do is just capturing the day as it happens. I set up scenes with the couple, say “action” (maybe tell a joke), and capture whatever happens next. I find this gets the most authentic results.
Have you had a videographer/filmmaker inspire your work, and if so, who and why?
David Fincher – Like him, I try to use tripods as much as possible. Focusing on the composition and story above all.
What is your most memorable accomplishment so far in your videography career?
Starting my Youtube Channel
What is one important lesson you have learned during your career?
Follow your heart – say that half-jokingly, but it is true. You have to love what you do – especially when it comes to creating art for other people.
