What motivated you to become a photographer?
When I was in high school, I fell in love with the process of creating images. I roped my sister into helping me do my own senior photos, and it was such a fun experience. Making a living from creating beautiful pieces of art is so joyful and fulfilling.

What is it that you try to convey with your work?
When I photograph a wedding I am always looking for an extra special portrait that shows the beauty of the relationship this couple shares. They know the love they have is strong and enduring, and I want the photo to reflect that!

How do you accomplish that?
Throughout a wedding day or portrait shoot, I am always observing my couples, taking notice of the unique ways they look or touch each other. Our region in Minnesota is full of lakes and prairie fields, so I like to honor the environment by featuring it in the portrait. Above all, I infuse the image with my signature vibrant style through various lighting, shooting and editing techniques.

What do you do during a session or wedding day to help make your clients feel comfortable?
Before I start photographing, I look my clients in the eye and let them know that I will take care of directing and posing them. I am continually talking while photographing, laughing with my couples and learning more about them. This allows them to relax, enjoy the moment and trust that I will make them look good!

What is your most memorable accomplishment so far in your photography career?
I have photographed over 160 weddings over the last ten years, and I’m so grateful for every couple who has trusted me along the way! It might sound silly, but I consider one of my greatest accomplishments to be that I still love what I do! Most photographers burn out in their first few years because of how challenging it is to simultaneously run a business and be a creative person.

What is one important lesson you have learned during your career?
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that business organization and structure is the catalyst to creativity. Set boundaries, know your numbers and outsource certain tasks so you can rest intentionally. When my mind is rested, I find that I am a more creative person and have greater joy in my work.

Which Photographer Supply Company products do you currently use?
I recently ordered the 5×7 Linen photo boxes with room for a USB drive. I’m excited to see them in person!

How has packaging elevated your brand?
Printed images are powerful. Receiving a beautiful, handcrafted box filled with prints inspires my couples to permanently display it in their home. I love sending my clients these boxes as a thank you for investing in my photographic services. It’s the finishing touch on their overall experience!
