Canon 5DMKIII

How would you define your style?
Minimal but effective emotion. I like to keep things simple! I love muted tones and intimate and vulnerable moments.

What motivated you to become a photographer?
First, I have to say that I’ve always loved weddings. I used to dream of planning & designing weddings, and that was something I originally attempted to become. Somewhere along the way, I got engaged and then married and fell in love with the photography side of it all. (Thanks Pinterest and Green Wedding Shoes for the endless amounts of inspo for Brides!) I then decided to by a beginner DSLR to toy around with, and now a year later, I’ve never been more in love with my career! My job keeps me inspired and motivated daily, and that’s something I will never take for granted!

What is it that you try to convey with your work?
My goal is to always come away with images that not only tell a story but evoke actual feelings in those who view my work. Whether that’s a simple portrait that feels intimate and vulnerable or an image from a wedding that is bursting with love.

How do you accomplish that?
I love to get up close & personal with my clients. I’m always chatting! I constantly talk during portrait sessions to help my clients feel more at ease and comfortable. I’ve found that when you actually connect with people, they’re in turn more likely to let their guard down and let you into their feelings and silliness. I also don’t pose my clients. Half the time my images are a result of candid moments while my couples are talking to each other. At times, I’ll prompt them to tell each other jokes or secrets. Even I bring out my horrible jokes if I’m really stretching for some laughing moments.

Have you had a photographer inspire your work, and if so, who and why?
Oh man, this is tough. Instagram and other Social Media platforms provide an endless amount of inspiration and I’m literally on them everyday. If I have to narrow it down, I have to mention Tyler Branch. I recently took part in a mentorship with him & the studio I work for and it was amazing! It was literally an “ah-ha!” moment for me, alllll day long. I walked away with SO much inspiration and confidence to really create what I want and not fear judgment.

What is your most memorable accomplishment so far in your photography career?
My most memorable accomplishment was being able to leave my full-time desk job for my photography career! It was definitely a scary leap, but it has paid off in so many ways. I now have the freedom to create my own schedule and do the things that make my mind and heart happy! I’m also able to invest more time with my family & friends! My smaller accomplishments would include booking two out-of-state weddings!

What is one thing you have learned during your career?
Something I am learning is to not compare myself to others. There are SO many amazing photographers out there and LA is saturated with incredible artists, which is awesome! I definitely have to make a conscious effort to admire, but not compare, which can be hard. Every day I try to work on my confidence as an artist and photographer because I’ve learned how truly important that is.

Which Photographer Supply Company products do you currently use?
I love the wooden USB’s and boxes! While I love the products, I’m a HUGE fan of your customer service! Seriously, the team is so great at answering any and all questions and being super helpful. This is something I really appreciate!

How have Photographer Supply Company products helped your business?
The USB’s are a big hit with my clients! While I normally deliver images in an online gallery, Photographer Supply Co is the only place I’ll ever purchase USB’s and boxes from. Having a beautiful and tangible keepsake to give to my clients is so great!
