How would you define your style?
I always have a hard time answering this, because everyone defines things like “bright” or “moody” differently. But I like to think that my style is candid and unposed and that my editing is true to life but with a hint of vintage moodiness.

What motivated you to become a photographer?
I’ve always loved taking photos but decided to go for it as a career after years of having all my friends ask me to take their photos. I really could not picture a better-suited job for me, then hiking and working with outdoor loving couples from all over Colorado!

What is it that you try to convey with your work?
Joy! I love working with couples who aren’t afraid to laugh out loud, play around with each other, and simply have fun together. I’ve never been one for the “quiet and introspective” kind of posing, and I think it shows in my work since the couples I work with are usually more down for a snowball fight or running around in the mountains than sitting quietly together with my camera in their faces.

How do you accomplish that?
I think the biggest part of getting that joy to show, is making sure my couples are very comfortable around me. Since most of my sessions involve some form of hiking, we always start off by just talking about our lives, what we love doing, our favorite Colorado adventures, and all that good stuff before I ever pull out my camera. That way I can refer back to things they said when we’re shooting to make them laugh, and their session feels more like hanging out with a friend than a professional stranger they hired.

Have you had a photographer inspire your work, and if so, who and why?
I am constantly inspired by photographers on Instagram and in Facebook groups – there is so much talent out there! But if I had to pull out just one, it would be the Scobeys here in Colorado (http://thescobeys.com). I got to second shoot for them at a wedding last year, and I learned more from them in 8 hours than I did from the past ten weddings I shot before that. They have such a wonderful photojournalistic quality to their work, and that’s something I’m always aspiring to learn more about.

What is your most memorable accomplishment so far in your photography career?
Getting to travel to Iceland, Norway, Sweden, France, Czech Republic, and all over the U.S. to photograph people! Travel has always been my greatest passion and being able to combine that with my job still blows my mind.

What is one important lesson you have learned during your career?
There has been so many, but I think the most important is to not be afraid to show my own personality – in my work, on my website, in social media, in client meetings, and while shooting. We keep hearing how photography is a saturated market, and how no one values it any more because everyone has good smartphone cameras, and that’s true if all you ever show are pretty photos with no personality. People will book you if they like who you are as a person, and they can’t do that if you sound like every other photographer out there.

I use the Chubby USB drives, and I’m also going to start using the Print & USB boxes.

How have Photographer Supply Company products helped your business?
I recently was a vendor at a bridal show, and had my print and delivery boxes on display at my booth. I had SO many people come up to me to talk about the wood boxes and USBs, and how they had never seen anything like it.

How has packaging elevated your brand?
These days it feels like everyone is moving to digital delivery, but I think people still crave the feeling of receiving a physical product – especially after spending thousands of dollars on their wedding photography. Being one of the photographers who deliver physical products helps me stand out.
