What motivated you to become a photographer?
I’ve loved photography since I was a kid. I worked for a few years after college, pursuing a job that really didn’t mean much to me. In fact, I hated it. But it was a great experience because I realized very quickly that it was worth it to work hard to pursue what I loved. It motivated me to take a risk and go back to school to study photography and film.

What is it that you try to convey with your work?
I want to show how beautiful and amazing ordinary, real life can be. I want families to remember the connections and moments they shared in a way that they keep coming back to over and over again.

How do you accomplish that?
I let go of perfection. I let families be themselves. I encourage running, playing, getting dirty. These are moments that allow families to be themselves, and that’s going to come across in their photos and films. I aim to be a fly on the wall, capturing real life moments as they unfold naturally, but those moments sometimes require me to step in and facilitate a bit. At the end of the day, I want families to look at my work and say, yes, that’s us.

Have you had a photographer inspire your work, and if so, who and why?
There are many. I really love Yan Palmer. Her photography is creative and daring, but at the same time, it’s about everyday, ordinary life.

What is your most memorable accomplishment so far in your photography career?
I worked for an awesome creative agency for a few years when I lived in Charlotte, NC. While there, I received an award voted on by my peers. It was an amazing moment for me professionally. I was so honored to be selected by such a talented group of creatives.

What is one thing you have learned during your career?
I’ll say two things that for me go hand in hand. 1 – don’t be ruled by fear (of failure, disappointment, criticism, etc.) and 2 – always be yourself.

Which Photographer Supply Company products do you currently use?
Currently the wooden USB drives, with a custom logo engraving.

How have Photographer Supply Company products helped your business?
We live in such a digital world, it’s easy for our images to live on a hard drive and be forgotten forever. I love that I can give my clients something tangible and beautiful that reminds them of the art that we made together. They also make great gifts to give to other loved ones, which multiplies my business even more.
